better on film

I’m sure by now most of you have seen the plethora of film photos appearing on your timeline. It’s amazing, isn’t it? Film photography has made a mighty comeback and I couldn’t be more excited. For several years now, basically since junior year of high school when I took a photography class and was first introduced to film, I’ve been wanting to delve into that world. But then somehow nothing ever happened.

But for the past year or so I’ve been seeing the images and the urges have been getting stronger. Then a stroke of luck, I came upon 2 film cameras generously given to me by a family friend. The one that’s been getting use is the Canon MC, and boy is it easy. Perfect for a newbie like myself. The other one, sadly, is out of commission so it’s just sitting on my shelf.

So here I am with a new camera and a few rolls of film thanks to amazon prime, and it’s still not enough. Next thing I know I’m scouring Depop to find a decently priced film camera. I was luckily enough to purchase a fully functional Yashica 35MF.

Just recently I got back my first two rolls of film and it was so exciting! I love it cause…when you first put your eye to the viewfinder and snap your photo, you don’t know what kind of result you’ll be getting back. Finally receiving your rolls of film is like a reward. I was all pumped up; my first roll came out great! I was on a high until I opened my second roll and discovered on only got 6 out of the 24 images back. I assume that’s because the other 18 images were messed up. That’s a major bummer, but hey, live and learn.

While on cloud 9 from my film expertise (*sarcasm*) I decided to start an Instagram account for my film photos. Feel free to follow it and see my truly authentic adventures!

@filmfordreamers

Till next time, xx.

  1. It’s so amazing that film is coming back! I think it adds life to the photo, and it is always nicer to look back on photographs than look back on a file on a computer screen. This year I started shooting with a film camera for my photography class and loving it – I loved the whole process of developing the in the dark room etc. I’m going to follow your account right now – your photos look great!

    • Yes! I agree wholeheartedly! I thoroughly enjoyed the film process when I got to do it all myself. Sadly now I just bring it to a photo place to get my images developed, as I don’t have access to a dark room anymore. But nevertheless I love the excitement of waiting for your images. Also holding the tangible photo in my hand is so satisfying 🙂 Thank you so much for following! I’m glad you like them, xx
